been telling my old man (ford nut from hell) about what I'm doing the falcom and he asked me how much HP I'm gonna end up with, and what I'm getting now, I can't spare the cash to put it on a dyno but what should a stock ex-chaser EF V8 put out, then I can work on the averages of the upgrades to get a rough idea where I am.

Stock EF V8 makes 165kw at the flywheel, or 216hp.
Usually get around 110kw at the wheels depending on dyno/weather etc. Most stock 4.9L HO's ive seen with a cat-back make 115kw at the wheels So about 145hp at the wheels or 151hp at the wheels with a catback exhaust.

hp / 0.75 = KW approx
kw x .075 = hp approx thats what i use as a guide

I use Kw to h.p X 1.34
H.p to KW divide 1.34 Some figures etc of our clubs dyno day... Being all on same dyno the figures should be comparable... Click on name should link to dyno clip.. http://nsw.fpvclub.com/dyno/index.html

About 110-115rwkw depending on dynos. These days the shootout mode gives slightly higher dyno readings so its probably around 120-125rwkw (shootout). On a stock engine you loose about 30% through the drivetrain but that percentage comes down as you get more power. |

Haha yeah maybe, and if its painted red thats another 10-20rwkw too With your mods you would probably be around the 120-130rwkw mark depending on the dyno. |

before i played with mine, it made 109 at the wheels. Unichip at cat back 2 1/2 single went to 134.9, extractors, upgraded fuel pump(today), 4 in cold air intake and K=N filter, as well as a set of underdrives so who knows now.
PS there is also a single 150hp dry kit hidden in their somewhere hehehe

Ummm, no. A drive train takes a certain amount of power to turn at a particular RPM. It is not a % of engine power, it is a fixed (close enough) figure. If you consider it a percentage then you are sorta right. eg If you make 200fwkW, and lose 50kW through the trans you lose 25%. If you make 300fwkW and still lose 50kW in the trans you are losing about 17%. (50kW is probably a bit excesive, I used it so I could do the maths in my head). You are still losing the same amount of power through the drivetrain, regardless of engine power. Autos take more power than manuals, it's a fact of life. If two identical cars (cept the trans) go on a dyno the one with the Manual trans will have more rwkW.

Yes you are fairly correct, part of the drivetrain loss does not change with power level but part of it does change. The more power you are putting through the drivetrain the greater the friction/heat losses as well as vibration which does add more overall drivetrain loss. There was an article linked to an older post on how this is calculated but it would have been lost by now. |
