No thermostat can and more likely will make the car overheat. A hot thermostat will slow flow through the radiator giving it more time to cool before it reheats in the engine. no thermostat dose not slow the flow at running temp so it just slowly gets hotter because the coolant dose not stay in the radiator long enough to cool off. What stuffs heads is start stop, hot cold.

I have the same problem as MadMax, my EB hardly warms up in winter I have taken it to the radiator blokes, mechanics, changed the sender unit twice with known good ones I have also changed the gauges with 6 known good ones and changed the thermostate a number of times from 91* to the hottest I can find 98* but it still only gets just over the second line before the writing on the temp gauge.
during summer it's runs around half and heater works great except i dont need the heat then. any ideas? |

I don't have a problem mate. I was just pointing out that thread topics can be seasonal. Such as heaters not working. Generally these topics only come up in winter, where as this thread is typically a summer topic. As for you heater problem. Check the heater tap, it should be fully open without vacuum. whilst you have it removed flush out the heater core.

I think its because fiftyone is desperate to believe his radiator man who has no experience designing cars and cooling system, above the recommendations of Ford and the others on Fordmods. |

it's not that alloy heads are bad, their just bad on cast iron blocks, it's a half done job, why go an alloy head if the block is still iron ? it's metallurgically stupid & dosile.
it's not only the heat issue as that is minor. but the combination of ally & steel triggers electrolysis & rust together in one environment & equals detrimental corrosion. bottom line... if your coolant looks anything short of fresh made cordial, change it, after a year, change it again. i have an el thermostat housing from a wreckers that has about 0.5mm wall thickness left from internal corrosion. an el ! mines an ea & i don't have those problems, hence why the el was at the wreckers to begin with.

long shot here, but wouldnt a 91* be the best option? cold parts wear quicker like when you go for a drive, you usually let the car warm up a bit before you give it a hard time, so if you used an 81 or even 71 thermostat? wouldnt the engine still be cold for longer? or does 10-20 degrees in temp when its that high doesnt really matter?
oh, i use the standard ef one in mine. 91 or 92 there abouts. |
