there's plenty of good threads about explaining the different TYPES of diffs, but i can't really find anything on how the diff ratios effect things, or even what the different ratios ARE.
i'm looking at putting an LSD in my ED, along with a manual conversion, so could someone tell me how this would differ from my current auto and single spinner diff? what is the difference between the different ratios in the LSD's, and which is best? i'm aware that different ratios might have better purposes for something in particular, like a bigger ratio for drag for example, so to clear things up, i'm looking just for an overall street performance LSD.

GLi/futura (sedan) had the 3.08SS
fairmonts and wagons have a 3.23SS fairmont ghia's/XR8 had a 3.23 LSD xr6's had a 3.45LSD thats what i recollect anyway, the shorter (higher number) the diff is the faster your car will accelerate, but revs at any given roadspeed will be higher i have a 3.23LSD, for best performance you'd want a 3.45

can you give me approximate prices on the 3.23LSD and the 3.45LSD? from a wrecker presumably.
are they hard to put in yourself? or is it worth getting it put in do you think?

Dunno about adelaide, but here in Vic you can be lucky and pick up something like a 3.27LSD from a wrecker for a few hundred.
The XR 3.45 diffs usually go for a bit more, simply cause they come from an XR and are rarer. Easy to do with a few mates, only difficult part is moving the diff around, they are heavy lol It really depends on what T5 you get as to what diff ratio is gonna be the best. The EA-EBI boxes have different ratios, bit shorter then the EBII-EL T5s(3.45 is 'shorter' then 3.08, 3.08 is 'taller' then 3.45). Theres a few more differences in the boxes, there is alot of information on that already if you do a search.
