Hi Guys,

I am a very happy camper today. I went into a local performance shop and brought some splitfire performance products for my 6cyl EL Fairmont which has 81000km on the odometer. I got a set of 8.8mm Splitfire HT Dual Core ignition leads $142, 6*Splitfire Spark Plugs $13 each and a splitfire panel filter $100.

The guy at the shop offered me a free dyno run because i spent over $200 and because it was a slow day. The first run was with the car all standard except for the EL GT air snorkel I installed last week. The car pulled 101RWKW.

We then fitted all the new splitfire components in about 30min and put the car on the dyno and it pulled 116RWKW. I was quite suprised about the result, although he wasn't as he new it normally gives 10-15% gain.

The car has got a standard exhaust and headers although they are in very good condition aswell as the engine.

So yeah i think "money well spent" because a 2.5in sports exhaust would probaly cost the same but would not give these results.

Cheers Luke.

Sweet, glad to hear you spent your money well, and are happy with the results. Gez a simple ignition upgrade and spark plug change plus a new filter giving 15rwkw! crazy stuff. U sure the dyno is acurate?

Damn that would put my XR6 near 140rwkw if i did that!!!!!!

I don't know about dyno results, the only true measue i think is a 400m dash. he could of fudged something on the pc when i wasn't looking, who knows and who cares, for $300 bucks i am happy with the performance especially after 3000rpm.

cheers luke.

Well its a much of a muchness as i think you have to consider how bad your leads and plugs were originally.

Must say tho you paid a fair bit for the leads. 9mm Spiral Core Leads from Queensland Ignition Leads are $85 i think and same for Eagle F1.
Same price for 10-10.5 as well i think and come in variant of colours!

And also remember you did a hot run then a cold run + the new clean bits your car will pull a different reading but its a definate good money spent as you noticed the difference instantly!

Oh as people are aware, Joe @ Crescent Motorsports is now the NSW reseller for Queensland Ignition Leads. Feel free to call him and order your leads $85 for 9mm+ leads in colours, and for your 8's as well!

Well if you are happy that your purchase has increased your rwkw then that is all that matters. I went through the same process with the same parts - bought directly from the Australian distributor of the Spitfire parts (Lynx Engineering in Rhodes) and there was NO INCREASE in rwkw on my 1991 Ford Fairmont Ghia. I had mine tested by and independant Dyno centre and there was no notible difference in the before and after readings.

Nice buy then. But, More important than the dyno run - are you noticing improvement when your driving?

LOL theres no point in me upgrading my ignition leads and plugs and filter ne ways. I Already have the performance gear so yeah. I only had to pay for the Filter, bought the car and it had some decent plugs and chunky 9mm leads too.

I think those dyno results are right. I let a mate drive my car who drives a low km AU futura and he definately noticed it accelerated and pulled alot harder than his AU falcon which has 45000km on the clock.
So he's going for a similar upgrade plus he's getting exhaust aswell.
I won't be getting an exhaust because the one on the car looks brand new and why replace it if it ain't broke.

cheers Luke.
