need some help when fairmont gets stuck in traffic even if its light traffic it nearly over heats even if the weather is freezing but, i can leave it in the shed runing or drive on the high way in 40 degree heat and its fine. Ive replaced the water pump ,radiator, temp sender, and have had the thermos cheked ,all fine. as the block been flushed as well yet it still does it.
heed help to find the problem |

i have the exact same issue, temps are perfect if the car is moving, but hit stop start trafic the gets up to the "o" of normal. and starts running really rough. ive had the same stuff done as you, radiator all that jazz
BUT i know what the problem is, the aircon radiator (the one infront of your main radiator) has had all the fins flattened. check that on yours. |

its possible it has something to do with your air conditioning. My mates v8 eb would overheat when the temp was set to 18 degrees, but was completely fine at 16 degrees. Not sure if this helps or not.

try checking in between the AC condensor and the radiator as this could have s**t blocking it up but it doesnt explain how it can be sitting there fine at home but over heat in traffic.

sounds like an airflow thing. what model falcon is it. in the shed it prolly isn't real hot, or as hot as being stuck in traffic. if its a later model with thermo's i'd say they are working but not kicking in to high speed. if its an older model with a clutch fan then maybe the fan is kaput.
you say you had the radiator done. is this just a flush or did you have the tanks removed and the cores cleaned properly or a new or reco one? if you just had a flush then a lot of the cores could still be blocked up. one drone - i realise the temp he mentions IS still in the 'normal' range but if he's anything like me, after owning the car for a while you get to know at what range of temps the car will run at. anything outside the 'normal range for your car' i would get looked at even if still well within 'normal' on gauge.

its a dec 94 ef fairmont 5lt and the radiator is brand new as in terms of hot its go from between the O & R to just under the red and thats when i pull over but on the open road the gauge sits between the O & the R and never moves.
there is defently no crap between the air condencer and the radiator because there both new. |

I have a 5.0 but the temperature barely moves whether it's idling or it's stop-starting in traffic in 40 degree heat. In fact it's not much different in winter.
It sounds more like your problem may be a blockage somewhere or perhaps the thermostat isn't 100%.

check that the thermos are hitting the second(third if EF) stage. a bad earth in the dash will stop the thermos from running at full speed, which, in that situation, they should be.
pull off the upper dash cover and make sure the main dash earth that bolts up near the climate control sunload sensor is getting a good contact.

When the A/C is switched on, do the fans either kick in, or go up in speed if they are on a lower speed to start with????
If they don't, there's a problem with the fans or what makes the fans go.

well one of the thermo kick in at full speed when the AC on but the other stays at half speed but thats at normal temp, but when i disconected the temp sender and run the the engine (this makes it think that it is overheating ) both kick in at full.
