Hi i just wanted to know if anyone has replace or changed there uni joints on the tailshaft..??
Is there anyway to really check if the uni's are damaged or worn out! I have a problem with my car, it has some sort of vibration and noise coming from the tailshaft area! getting worse at higher speeds and deaccleration.. any ideas?? |

try the bearing inside the gearbox extensionhousing where the drive shaft goes into, theyre known to get a little loose

Yer mate its lowered and its also a manual 6cyl.
noise gets louder when clutch is depressed suddenly |

Had a uni let go on the hway - seized. had about the same symptoms. Take the tailshaft out and move the uni - you'll know quickly if they are stuffed. New ones are under $20 I think - they're a bastard to press in or out wihout a press. Did it myself with a (big) bench vice and alot of care in a few hours. Should be cheap even at repairer.
May also be your clutch bearing - particularly if it can be heard with the clutch in.

Well it all started to make funny noises after 110+k highway run with a full tank and full boot!
I was thinking it could be a tailshaft..but wouldn't they be extreamly hard to bend and damage?? |

My bet its the angle of the pinion shaft, seems to happen after they have been lowered, i had superlows in the back and changed to lows and improved mine, vibration still there not nearly as bad

Firstly ensure its speed related and not rev related, if rev related its not the driveline (driveshaft)
If its only occured after lowering make sure the upper and lower control arm bushes on the diff/chassis are not worn along with worn UJ's. If bushes and UJ's are fine check for play at the slip flange entering the transmission/gearbox. If play is evident have the extension casing bush and seal replaced. If no play evident have the pinion angle checked at the front and rear of the driveshaft. The angle should not exceed a difference from front to rear of 1 degree. The trans can be rasied to correct any difference. |

i have this exact, exact same issue. at 110kmh with foot off accelerator it vibrates something fierce. If i depress the clutch its even worse. Uni's seem to be ok, I have noticed though my tailshaft (auto) is not, in fact, the same length as a manual one (slightly shorter) and that it isnt in the splines enough. Thats one theory. So im going to try find a tailshaft, then uni's, then bushes, then bearings/diff backlash, then drive off cliff

Is the diff touching the floor????
I have seen when lowered falc's with a full tank and boot, the tailshaft hits/rubs on the floor/tunnel. Lift it up and have a look.

Well im getting both uni joins changed today, hopefully it fixes the problem! fingers crossed.

All problems now fixed.. it was the worn out/sezied uni joints!!
