hey all
been a while since i was actually on here posting about my own car
but i am back

i been eying off this particular car now for about 6months, its been parked on the side of the road, and i had to drive past it twice a day during the course of my work/deliveries...

anyhow im the 3rd owner of it since new!
the lady i brought it off, wanted 1400 for it originally.. then it went to 1000.
When i looked at it and asked what was the lowest price she would take, she said she wouldnt take less than 800.. then we actually got it running so she caved and took 650 for it - just to get the thing out of her yard.

its got a lpg system on it, and it musta been put in from new maybe, coz the fuel gauge in the dash, switch it over to lpg, and the fuel gauge flicks round to show you whats in the lpg tank - and the low fuel light comes on too when its low!!!!! i was blown away by that - thats for sure!!

ok - better tell yaz what the car actually is
its a 1984, FD LTD
with the normal trimmings of the year, sunroof, c-pillar louvers, and 4.1 EFI
sunroof still works perfectly too, the lady owner was suprised that it did work.
electric areial still works perfectly too!
electric seats both work fine - well, they feel a lil 'tired' but i think a bit of a clean of the motors will fix that one :)
all electric windows still work
central locking is a lil sad - the actuators try to work, but not all doors will unlock/lock.

interior is in pretty good condition for its age.
has 305thousand kays on the clock, which is pretty low i guess for a 23year old car!!!!
someone has spent a lot of money on it over the years - and i scored by getting it so cheap!!!!!
former member of this forum most definatly agrees that i got a real bargain of a car - but hes banned now so i wont mention names.

here is a pic, better pics to come, when i get the car to another location very soon.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v146/ ... age029.jpg

oh - and the tail lights, are in PERFECT condition!!! :D

i have ALWAYS wanted one of these LTD's ever since i got my first ZK Fairlane.
much happiness atm here for me!!

oh - the engine number matches the vin plate too

the body number is a slight difference to what it should be. the last 3 digits on the plate are not what they are ment to be, it ends in "237"
all other number on the plate indicate that it is most definatly an LTD
we have phoned some ford guru, and he is stumped as to what this might mean... any ideas on here?

cheers guys (and gals)

i went and had another look at the car today - coz its not parked where im living atm, so have to travel to see it
put all the windows down, opened the sunroof to try and get the inside to dry out a little bit.

i know the photo doesnt show it too well, but the car has a burgendy pinstripe on the sides. if it was an FC LTD, with the gold body colour, one could think it was a Cartier....
but shes an FD... so not a Cartier LTD :(

does anyone know what the last 3 digits of the body number being different to what a normal FD LTD might mean? coz they dont match up as they are ment to... if i had a good phone image, i would post it.. but i dont so cant :S

faithful resto is on the cards for her, with a slight tidy up as i go.

when i was looking over it today (as one does with a new toy) i noticed that the lpg system is an IMPCO one.
is that a good system to use?
i have no idea about LPG, i normally refuse to run it, but coz someone has gone to a lot of effort to make the factory fuel gauge show lpg levels too.. i might continue to run it...

i'm doing up an FD LTD too.
Started by buying an FD with a Mick Webb 351 in it but the shell was rotted out. Running gear found its way into my XE.

Then i bought an FD to wreck out from Sydney. We pulled it to bits in just a day and dragged everything back down to Melb including a 351 HO spec D block, stg 3 c10, 3500rpm stally, 9 inch LSD with 3.55:1 gears, wheels, panels interior etc. Mostly coz i needed the 9 inch and the c10 for my XE. But FD was leaf sprung.

Then along comes another ebay bargain...an FD in the same colour and trim as the mick webb car. This has a coil sprung 9 inch but no diff centre. The shell is clean as! So it was decided that i would pull the best of everything together and make a nice car for my parents as thanks for years of putting up with my hobby and the numerous dead fords littering our farm!

Just going to throw a fresh clevo back in it with a c10 for towing and keep it neat.

cheers - cheersdude!

you wont see this x series ltd using the factory fuel guage on lpg, coz i decided that i will pull it off the car.. and run it the way it should be - on real fuel!

im in two minds of what to do with it.. either keep the 6... or go for a nice fuel injected 5L... im liking the idea of the 302 coz il get more power and use about the same amount of fuel to do it in.
the problem with the 302 efi route is that all the extra work involved in it.

i like the idea of it being original.. coz in under 2 years time, she falls under the 'classic car' category....

does anyone have any ideas as to why the last 3 digits of the body number are not 'true' FD ltd? they are ment to be 237 or something, but i got something different...
