Does anyone know where you can buy a tool that secures the water pump while you unbolt the clutch fan?? According to my ford manual it must be fabricated, but a few people on here have removed the clutch fan before, so i was wondering how other people have gone about it?

Put big spanner on.......hit spanner with hammer.....clutch fan comes loose.
Otherwise things get messy.......stilsons, vicegrips, heat, lost skin, trips to hospital...... BTW remember LEFT HAND THREAD (I think )

Even ford make their own.
Its like a hook, that holds the fan bolts while you undo the thread with a spanner. try to keep it on the car. If all else fails, go thermos Or take the water pump off and take the pmp and fan to ford and ask them to do it.

Second set of instructions: Remove water pump and clutch fan complete
Use angle grinder to cut water pump shaft This allows access to water pump pulley. Remove pulley Instal new water pump with pulley but no clutch fan Go to REPCO or other such store and purchase thermo fans. Or be lazy like me and don't bother fitting any fan

just jam a bit flat blade between the water pump pulley bolts. The nut on the clutch fan is 32mm reverse thread.

it will rotate but all thats needed (most of the time) is a sharp crack with a hammer to loosen it.

I did a search on e-bay and these tools are actually available. Seen to remember the price being about 30 bucks.

At the wreckers we had a 32mm spanner but it was different. It was about 3-5mm thick steel
And we had a vice grip with a chain that went round the pump.

Ive always used a shifter (was a thin one) and a big long screw driver, worked everytime.
I used to do a 10 or so of the dam things a year when I worked in a car yard and my boss had 4 cabs and a few mates that used to get the lackey (me) to do the work

These things are an absolute prick.
Me and the big J dizzle couldnt get it off so we (he) ended up unbolting the water pump..... luckily we were installing el motor with el fans so it didnt matter.... |

Sure fire way to remove clutch fan in less than 45 seconds if you dont have the factory "water pump holdiing special tool".
1. Take the front belt off the balancer. 2. Get a 10mm short angled spanner and put the ring end on a pulley bolt. 3. Turn the hub clockwise until the spanner jams on the pulley and balancer locking it from moving. 4. Get some multi grips, larger spanner or shifter and turn the fan nut clockwise. It should unbolt easily. |
