If i drive my car only on gas and never switch to petrol, could that damage the engine or wear it out faster? Someone told me once that if u drive only on gas that the engine head dries out and cracks eventually. Is that true?

its prolly good to use petrol at lease once a week just to keep fuel flowing through the injectors etc etc..
but yea over time it may cause damage to the valve seats..but thats only if your giving the car a thrashing all the time

your injectors will get blocked. its a good idea to run it on petrol for a very short time whenever you use your car.
When my car was dual fuel i always used to start it on petrol and use petrol until it was at operating temp. I never really had many problems doing that

Nothing wrong with straight LPG mate, have a look at how many k's a taxi gets out of an engine!
Aslong as it's in tune and not running too lean then you shouldn't have any problems at all, and as for the head cracking in half... That's laughable lol. |

Yeah but a taxi will have less cold starts then a 'family' car would. Plus most cabbies will use a fully synthetic oil not the standard oil. But straight gas, the injectors might get clogged or the fuel turn bad and run like s**t. My old boss had many straight gas car but all older cars. (worked 77 Charger, XB Ute and hes VQ Statesman)

Its really only going to stuff the injectors. I pretty much ran my EA solely on LPG for years and never destroyed a valve or a valve seat.

(worked 77 Charger, XB Ute and hes VQ Statesman) How many LPG equipped cars have you had? I've had numerous since 1990, and as Madmax just stated it's only the injectors. So many people have been told too many s**t horror stories about LPG. Drop the oil on an unleaded engine after 10,000 k's, then drop the oil from an LPG powered engine and look at the difference, petrol contaminates the oil far more than LPG, and petrol also washes more oil away from the bores which causes wear. I always run my LPG a tad on the rich side, the only time i had head problems was on my 351 because the setup that was on it wouldn't feed the engine, it ran too lean and fried the seats and even warped the valves. |

Taxis would never use fully syn oil. It simply costs too much. There is hardly any money running a taxi as it is, so why would they waste it on fully syn?
When I was working as a taxi driver, every 12 hours the cars were topped up. It didn't matter what car it was, AU, BA or toyota coaster, they all used the same oil. Every month they got an oil and filter change. If you run LPG all the time simply expect your Petrol system to fail. Your fuel pump will fail and your tank will get a petrol fungus in there (go all red and rusty looking) and your injectors will either clog or leak. cheers Scott

my sons EL is an excab and petrol side didnt work when I got it. they had not re wired it in when they put in the new lpg convertor.
it had not run om petrol for 4 years (by previous owner) and I wanted it running again, so I rewired it back up, replaced the fuel pump in the tank and it ran no problems. Put some petrol in Started on 5 cylinders and found one of the injector leads not clipped in and bingo ran fine. I like having the petrol running as a backup fuel in case he runs out of LPG

i only really use petrol to get the car to operating temp, and about 2km down the road, to the highway, then its gas country.
whats wrong with giving the car a booting gas? |

you can drive solely on gas but don't expect to run on petrol a few years down the track just MIGHT have a few probs.
