I have had a rough week or 2 with the car but i think i am starting to get somewhere. I changed the power steering pump on tuesday as the old one was leaking from the pulley at the front. since changing it the pressure hose at the back is now leaking out through the nut that tightens into the pump along the tube, not through the thread. Can the nut be changed or do i need to get the hose replaced or is there a trick to doing these up that i dont know about. i have taken it out and put the new nylon washer in and tried again but still the same result the hose its self seems loose in the nut and the nut is as tight as its going to get. any ideas???

Been there done that.
I first changed the rubber fitting seals and the hose teflon seal and it still leaked.
So off to Repco and brought a whole new hose(I get a great work discount) $70 odd.
That finally fixed it, but for the price of the seals it was worth a crack first, even though I feared it was the hose, several other peoples expriances.
I had to cut out part of the ring of my 18mm ring spanner to fit over the hose and slide onto the nut.
It's an eazy job, made sure you get the lower hose end seal as well.

As for your nut question, they are pressed on, so unless you have the right tooling to change those, then yeah, new hose is the easiest.

Ive got an ef had the same problem about a month ago.

The problem usually comes from using an open-ended spanner on the nut for the highpressure line that goes into the back of the pump.
In my gregorys manual i have it says that you must use a pipe spanner otherwise it will distort the union.

Go to ford spare parts and ask them for the union that goes on the end of the hose that screws into the pump. I don't have the part number but it cost me about $17.

Have a look inside the union it has a teflon seal. That is the seal that is leaking.
What i did to change it was remove the high pressure line from the pump & the rack.
Clamp the hose in a vice by the union and work out where the c-clip is inside it and cut the union off with an angle grinder. you will need to be very careful so you don't cut too far through it, you could damage the hose.
I just used the grinder a bit at a time, if you cut deep enough you can see the metal changes colour so this is how i knew when i was cutting into the c-clip.
just keep cutting it around slowly until you can get that c-clip out of the centre of the union.
they just slide it all off, give everything a good wash.
The new union with just slide straight on with your hand, just use a bit of auto fluid on the new seal, this will help it slide on easier.
Then, pretty much just refit the high pressure hose, top up with ps fluid, bleed the ps then your done!

it only took me about 30mins to do this and ive never done it before.

or, you could just remove your hose, get a new union from ford and take it to pirtek or enzed or any hydraulic shop and get them to install it for you.
But, by the time you do all of that you probably couldve just spend $70 on a new one.
