When you say key banger, do you mean a flame, or some gunshot sounding thing? I was going down the Boulevarde (Near Cronulla) last year, down a hill, being a real d***head, i turned the ignition off for abit, then back on, and it took abit to start again, but it made a sound like a gunshot/backfire.

i have been toying with the idea of putting an exhaust flame thrower on my car.

before you start yelling rice, its illegal and will burn/melt my rear bar, i just want to say i only want to do this for a little fun before i install the motec to fix my fuel and tune issues. and i will be putting my old rear bar on.

i have done a google search and a search on here but didnt find what i was after.

with the current set up in the ef it runs quite rich. give it a rev and a lot of black smoke out the back.

the question i have is will just running a simple set up of a switch, coil and sparkplug be enough to make a flame (not after a huge flame and i dont want to run an ignition cut). also will the flames travel up the exhaust or will the flow of exhaust gasses be enough to keep it from travelling up the exhaust?

cheers
bucko

you could try running your engine on super high octane fuel like v8 supercars, then under heavy downshift breaking you might get some flames before the engine blows :)

^^ super high octaine like in V8's?? they run standard 98 octaine pump mix.. well possibly a better quality, but still only 98 octaine.

Back to Keybangers, better topic! Used to have a POS '78 corrolla 2 door!! bump the fuel mix up, get her running rich. now here is the good part.. Sydney Harbour Tunnel, turn the car off, pump the accelerator flood the engine a bit, then clutch start it!! KAA-BOOOM!!!! the echo in the tunnel from the bang.. did it 3 times, blew the rear muffler to bits! stop and get the rear muffler removed and a straight through put on.. the Bang became even more intense and the flames were visable in the rear view mirror.. worked well untill the rings blew, the gasket went and somehow damaged the gearbox..

Flame throwers??? do it. but want a little more fun and a big bastard flame?

get a washer bottle from supercheap, fill it with a flamable substance, and have that pump in before the ignition in the pipe.. ½ the time the fuel that is coming out the pipe it too oxygenated and polluted to ignite.. just some past experience advise. :)

Sorry to hijack the thread but i was thinking a rocket launcher to clear the traffic.... Makes about as much sense as putting a flame thrower exhaust on a falcon... u put them on old cars fools...

Why only old cars? And why do you think he'd use it in traffic? He wants to have some fun in his backyard, if you have nothing useful to add, why post at all?

First cruise i went on in Newcastle there was a guy with an EA who had a flamethrower exhaust, i'll see if i can get in touch with anyone who knew the guy ;)

LOL sarcasm dude... u heard of it? But i do think they look better on a older rarer cars then a falcon... Its my opinion and im not gonna have an arguement ova it!

I am no stranger to sarcasm. It really doesn't seem like you were approving of the idea though in your post, so forgive me for thinking otherwise

Kinda off topic, But this reminds me of a Street Machine magazine i read many moons ago where this guy had a big red lo'ridin lincoln continental, there was a picture of him driving at night and he had some steel bars (bout half inch thick) behind the rear wheels dragging on the road leaving these big f*%# off sparks trailing a good 8 feet long. I've always dreamed of doing a similar thing with my 73'Rambler Matador......
