if everything is running well dont bother taking it machanics, just do the regular yourself just change the spark plugs, oil, oil filter, air filter, fuel filter, and ignition leads if they havent been done in a while)

sparkpulgs- are pretty straight foward, pull out the old ones put in the new ones,
oil- jack the car up, get under the car empty the oil(make sure you have a bucket to catch the oil) while the oils out change the oil filter just twist out the old one then twist in the new one. then put the new oil in the the engine. air filter- open airbox take the out old one put in the new one i rekon you should just give it a go, if the worst happens call "lube mobile" if you CBF then just take it to any machanics and ask for a minor service but remember youll never learn unless you try

Should replace your BRAKE(not break) fluid once a year, same for power STEERING(not stearing), it all absorbs water, and it will f**k your system up if you dont do it regulary.

And use anti-seize compound on the spark plug threads too. And clean the throttle body.

Best thing is first get your workshop manual (autobarn will have them), check how to do the above listed thing's and give it a go. Then read up about your car and try to think how all the systems work together, you will notice more about your car and find yourself fault checking without even realising it.
I will mention that when you replace the power steering and brake fluid, it is worth flushing the system. I have found Brakes Plus to be a great little place if you CBF, they are quick and cheap enough, give them a call. Also, some logic, look at what your working on and try to visualise how it works, or unbolts etc! I service my car from top to toe myself (although CBF with larger more in depth thing's as I don't have a good enough garage) and have learnt how to do it from a short stint at high school, reading books and trial and error. Give it a go! p.s. Try to use the right tools and good luck!
