hi guys

i am re building an EB jus 4 fun - lookin at runnin 600HP plus when i finish - any way thought a custom dash would be pretty cool

any way wanting an ammeter (and the rest) for the simple fact im goin to all this effort to build it may as well no wat she is doin at all times!!!

so this is what happened. connected the gauge in series between alterator and battery. worked good went -VE when turned lights on IGN off bla bla bla

ANY WAY.... my question is this. ran the car for half hour the other day and wires started melting!!! is this because i have used wires with too small thickness or have i jus f**k something up when i moved the battery to the boot??????????

Well it would depend on what wires were melting.
But generally, if the wires are cooking. You have run wires that are too small, and can't carry the current that they are.

2x8 gauge, for the battery in the boot?
Thats would be the minimum i would be running.
I only have 2 guage running my battery in my boot. If you're battery isn't in good condition, you will kill it.
I would personally recommend running a 0 gauge from a terminal/distribution block in the engine bay, to the battery.

You should check the maximum current output of the alternator and obtain the next size cable. Ammeters usually require quite a large cable size. I had a 120 amp alternator on my car when I ran an Autometer ammeter. The cable i used was about 8 mm in diameter (not including the insulation).

The thing is, if you've moved the battery to the boot, you would have a few wires, that will connect to the battery, like the starter, alternator, etc.
A good idea is to put all of those in a terminal block located where the battery used to be, and keep all their wiring the same as they were, when the battery was in the engine bay.
Then run a 0 or 2 gauge minimum to the boot.
Am i on the right track or talking about the wrong thing?

make sure you use a fuse rated just under the wires amperage rating, that will eliminate melted wires (or a fire at worst)
