well when i 1st bought my ute i had gear box probs when it was cold, couldnt change to second and the rest was a prick til it warmed up. now start of this year with hot weather im having the oppisite problems, my gear box now over heats (on 30+ days after a long drive or some spirited driving) which causes these problems: have to really force it to change gears unless you rev it out, when stopped its a total prick to get into reverse and 1st aint too far off and it leaks oil from the tail shaft input. the synchros (or whatever they are) are noisy too
ford have suggested trying some synthetic oil or maybe try and put in for a warrenty claim (out of warrenty now) cos i said something about it but they couldnt find anything wrong. so im just wondering if ppl think an oil change might fix it up or is it worth the hassle of trying to get the warrenty and not having a car for a few days or is it just time for a new box? cheers, mark |

ye only thing with the warrenty thing is it happened when it was cold and the gears would stick in the mornings and now its just over heating in hot weather so they might not cover it, well thats just my thoughts, but i may as well give it a go

Is this thing auto or manual????? If its manual, change the oil. If its auto, service it and get a decent tranny cooler. And make sure your brakes aren't dragging.

not being a smartass but it kinda says it in my sig... hi perf clutch + rip shift
i've had the fluid level checked and its not low or anything, and it only leaks when it is hot. i know oils aint oils but could the standard oil cause it to over heat and would a good oil make it that much better? or could it be something else causing it? |

How do you know its overheating??? Try this, ATF DEX III mixed with VMX80 (castrol) in 80%/20% mix and add to that some Nulon G90 ( gear oil additive). This is what I run in my box, and have no probs, easy shifting even when cold.
