1k shouldnt really have done any damage, however i would get your brakes done a little sooner than you planned just to be on the safe side.
here is a worst case serario: i had a fast td cordy and i was giving it a workout, noticed that smell, had a look and my front rotors were glowing red anyways next day because of the extream heat the part of the pad that contacts the rotor came adrift from the steel part of the pad, because of that the pad jammed between the rotor and the calipar resalting in a front wheel lockup lucky i was traveling slow. |

there shouldnt be much damage unless you can notice somthing is rong mate, i dont know who is adjusting your handbrakes but everyone that i do has max travel of about 4clicks and you really need to yank the bastard to get it that far

what car is it???? all it would have done is either a: worn out the rear pads a little quicker that it should have or b: worn the handbrake shoes down alittle. also he might have cooked the rear discs (depending on the handbrake setup)

my old xr6 i adjusted it, 5 clicks it would hold the car on an incline and they werent sticking when you spun the wheel by hand with the handbrake released. the au i adjusted while i had the interior out to be cleaned, it's 6 clicks. they just need adjustment. if the 10mm nut near the handbrake is at it's full travel, you can adjust them inside the drums.
