It's been a while now since I put the EF motor in the EA. I'm starting to get a little itchy about doing more to the motor. I am considering putting a cam in.
My question is weather it is worth giving the head a clean up with the die grinder while the head is off and my hands are dirty. Has anyone else had ago at this themselves and have some useful tips? I have previously heavily ported a L series nissan motor and had good gains. Is it worth doing to the EF head or do they flow well enough by themseves already. Is there someone in the brisy area that does a reasonable job (at a reasonable price) I'm not after a strip beast - just am improvement with a mild cam. Thanks in advance for any thoughts and comments.

Thanks for the replies, cjh did you port the ea head yourself? I wasn't clear in my previous post but I was going to have a go myself. I'd be interested in hearing from someone who has attemped the job themselves. I did do the nissan head myself so I do have some idea.
Thanks again.

I personally wouldnt port the head (as in enlarging the ports). Maybe a clean up of the casting if it is ugly and gasket matching but the size of the ports themselves isnt a problem.
3 angle valve job, 41mm exhaust valves if the head doesnt have them, and a tickle here and there with the die grinder is all they need.

I'll decrease the bowl throat by 30% personally, after a good clean up.
epoxy is incredible stuff you know. .

Thanks again. Yes, I did it myself. Have done several heads over the years, including M/cycle heads too. I have only ever port matched them using ACL brand gaskets, and smoothed them out, inlet & exhaust, sometimes polishing the chambers (that takes a damn long time), sometimes fitting larger valves. In the case of the 3.9/4.0 cyl heads with the 39mm Ex valves, and similar prob with other engines, I choose (where possible) a cam that has more duration or lift for the Exhaust. And with some success.

thanks for the replies - I think I'll tidy the ports up when the head comes off. I think I will save the big go for another time.
