I replaced my 5 Speed about a year ago because 4th crapped out in a big way. It started as just jumping out of gear and progressed to chewing out syncros to just not being there (if you know what I mean). So I bit the bullet and shelled out for a new box.
Now the new box is starting to do the same without even being driven that hard. Is this a common fault or is it just me?

Only way you'll know for sure is strip the box down - it's not as hard as you think.
Most of the bearings are pretty cheap - except the rear mainshaft one and the countergear front cup.
