i have a ford eb xr8, ive just been told that it is starting to blow blue smoke. At this early stage im not too fussed about it but when it gets worse what are my option apart from keeping it standard. My aim is to get some decent power out of it without breaking transmission, clutches, gearboxes, diffs etc. At the moment it has 131 kilowatts at the rear wheels, not enough:-) At the same time im looking at keeping the cost as reasonable as possible.

Welcome to forums...
What klrs has engine done ?
I wouldn't worry too much about it unless its using alot of oil..
Oil changes help in the smoke dept as old oil causes more exhaust smoke...Could be excessive wear in valve guides ???
I'd purchase a second hand AU engine with maf....
By the time you bought gtp heads, inlet,t/b and maf. Would be more than s/h engine...If you can get one...Although you have a wrecker that sells XR parts down there...

I bought the car when it had done 143,000 which i thought was pretty damn decent for a 91 model XR8. At the moment it sits on 192,000. Between here and Melb it may use just over a quarter on the dipstick. It is due for an oil and filter change, which is happening very shortly.

Whats the different between an AU engine regarding power output and an engine that has gtp heads etc. The gtp heads come out of the ED XR8 sprint is that correct? When speaking about techincal terms you have to be more precise, im mechanically minded to a certain extent, some parts have to explained to me, Sorry!!

Regarding availability of parts down here, i think it is quite difficult to obtain XR parts unless they are new from Ford. I still trying to obtain XR front quad lights, i have to plastic cover but no brackets or lights. To purchase them direct from Ford im looking at $400 a side, OUCH!!!

Its not gonna be cheap.

and yes - it will kill your running gear - hence the reason why there is a TKO listed there.

Just as a run down... its gonna be about $5k for the TKO, about $3k for the brakes, $5k for the block... scared off yet?? cos I dont think you want to know the dramas graeme went through for his pistons and injectors.
