Bugger that, if its 4mm off red, definetly something wrong, if it gets over half, i would be looking for something wrong.

For a relatively hot day and with air con on, sounds fine to me.. However everything that has been mentioned (besides rad replacement) should all be regular maintenance anyway.

Exactly!
Everything has been maintained & checked more often then needed, hence the reason why it shouldnt be doing this...

NP, will just replace the radiator when cam goes in

I just drove 600km round trip, in 42 degree heat, with 4 in the car , loaded up, and the gauge never went past M, which was 97 according to climate control. Any higher than M would be something wrong.

I believe it does. The Windsor motors run a bit hotter than the I6s and when running fine they hover around the L. In the V8s I've found they tend to stick around M and A.

Dunno about the I6 but windsor + cooling system takes 15L.

About all this "halfway between O and R" etc. - bring up the diagnostic on the odometer and get a specific reading. So if you know roughly what your boiling point is (let's say 100*c for water - add a few degrees for coolant and then add a few more for pressurised system) you can know exactly how close to disaster you are.

Going up steep hill @ 100km/hr for 15min on a hot day, mine would get to 110*c with a fairly shagged radiator. Any more than that and i would have bailed.

For recommended replacements - the ones yobbo has suggested sound like a good deal - everywhere ive seen em they about $320. Std replacement around 190

I'd say the guys are right with the radiator, most likely blocked. However before you spend a s**t load on a new one, have you checked your thermostat? You'd feel a right mug if you changed your radiator and still had the same problem.

I have a EBXR8 which has pretty much the same set up and ive just replaceed my clutch fan as it was leaking oil and not working. After this is was still overheating so i returned it to motor radiators which is a Natrad dealer and they clean my engine out and the radiator. It was 50% blocked and i havent had any trouble since. I also replaced the fan-belt as it was severely cracked.

In your case i would say that it would be blocked and in need of cleanout and system flush. At the moment i use castrol anti-frezze anti-boil this works a treat. Whatever you do, do not use the red ford coolant as it eats at your rubbers inside your radiator and therefore creates unwanted leaks. Ideally your ride shouldnt run any higher than half on a 30-37 degree day with or without the air-con on

Good luck with the beast

I would agree with this one. Just recently I observed that my temp has hovering around "M" which was a bit strange for me coze I usually have it between "A" and "L". I replaced the thermostat (although for another reason), and now it hasn't touched "M" eversince (hotday, aircon on, long idling, etc.) I recon my old thermostat wasn't opening fully.
