hey guys my debated question is what is an ideal running temp fo r a clevo at idle im on around 1200 f on a average day

1200 F? I think you'd have a major melting problem mate.
Throw some info about your radiator, thermostat and fans. |

My clevo runs at about 190F consistantly. I have a set of AU thermos on an XAGT radiator, and have used an Audi temp switch to activate them. I never go over half way on the guage, which is about 194F. It might go a little higher, but thats after sustained high RPM load in top gear....eg burnout, but comes back to operating range quickly.
Make sure you are running the correct Cleveland thermostat too, too many people have windsor thermostats fitted. |

I was running a 4 core GT radiator with 170 thermostat and twin DC31 fans (approx 3000cu/ft min) Fans were set to come in just before half way and even on the hottest day with the AC on under extreme load going slow it wouldn't go over that. Normal driving the fans wouldn't even come on it was only in traffic etc that you would hear them. The voltage guage dropped a volt when they cut in as well so you could tell.

I once had the same prob with a 351C in an XD. It had EL thermo fans, engine oil cooler, 4 core Aussie Desert cooler radiator, alloy intake manifold with s/s oil splash shield, etc...etc. and it ran hot, except on the hiway. Anyway, I modified the w/pump ( tried 3 different brands prior, to see if it was the pumps), and it now runs cool, about 180F.

Hope this helps. That would be the brass plate to the rear of the impellor to stop cavitation?? The Ford racing pump has this, and from all I have heard, it works really well |

I suppose so, don't know, never saw one, I just figured it for myself, that it was cavitating or not positively moving the coolant.
I made a circle out of s/s and welded it onto the impeller, checked the clearances and it works. Its been on there now for about 18mths.

My clevo sits at about 175 on the highway and up to 190 at the lights when the thermo kicks in. Most of the time its on 180F. I read somewhere that piston petrol engines operate most efficiently at 93C...

My xe on a 25 deg lower day runs about 83 deg c and on 30 + deg days it can creep up to 95 deg
They used to say that the xd xes out of the factory would boil on a warm day if you were driving around the city with the air con on |
