g'day guys ,

I want to remove the spoiler from my fairlane and it also needs a boot hinge replaced , i've talked to a couple of panel beaters and am far from happy with their advice . wild price fluctuations , and advice such as having to paint the rear half of car so the repaint of the boot lid will match . the cheapest i've been offered is $1000 to remove spoiler , weld up holes and paint lid and parts of rear 1/4's to match and $400 to replace boot hinge .

anyone got some advice of what actually needs to be done to accomplish this and if the money being quoted is reasonable . I'm not looking for cheap s**t work , I'm looking for a panel beater who takes pride in their work doing an excellent job for a fair price . $1400 sounds excessive to me , but hey , I may be very wrong .

I'm in nth east suburbs of melbourne , just bought car in south oz hence the plates .

any panel beaters in melbourne care to make some comments , anyone want to reccommend a competent panel beater .

thanks guys

Have u considered buying a new bootlid putting that one on and selling the old one?

But that price does seem excessive.

freak and na ,

thanks for the advice , the car is a 2001 au 11 sportsman ghia . if i could find a boot off a sportsman ghia then yeah might be the way to go , if not , then i still have to have it resprayed and that seemed to be the costly part . what did you think of $400 for the replacement of the hinge .

thanks

Just buy a normal fairlane ghia boot in same colour.... its not going to matter either way if its a sportsman one.

g'day fairmont ,

thanks for the comments . what's a fair price to pay for a boot lid that's in as new condition ? is the silver color on my sportsman unique to the sportsman ghia or is it a standard fairlane silver ?

thanks

the colour is Liquid Silver. Its a standard AU colour, you could even get it on the base model falcons.
