hey all, it took us 2 days (wed from 1pm till 6pm) and today (from 11am till 6:30pm) to pull out 2 gearbox's and replace mine with the EL one i bought and my mates box with my old one. we also cleaned them up a little.

we had some issues with the starter motor bolts not lining up but got it sorted.

i now feel that first s alot more meatier and the shifting is alot more smoother and quicker. i highly recommend an EL box to anyone replacing a 4 speed EA box. and the bracing over the casing of the box is alot better.

so now im really happy and im looking forward to the next cruise.

next mod to do is a new head as my valve seals are gone... the lowering on superlows :P

anyone else done this exchange? let me know what differences you found.

yeah its the same. it does require a bit of work as all box changes do

undo the bottom bolts and remove plate to show torque converter, undo the bolts, pull the tail shaft out then undo the oil lines and wires then undo the box mounts and drop the back of it to get to the top bolts. once thats done hold the torque converter into the gearbox with some metal strips or rope otherwise you will need another 4-5 litres to fill it up again then the fun bit begins... getting it out from under the car and lifting the new one in

have a search for a technical document that should outline step by step
