Um, I am confused. I've read about the smartlock and smartshield and am under the impression that the smartshield has a few fancy bits, panic alarm etc etc and uses the newer remotes. And that the smartlock is basically the late EB-AU series 1 system.

However, I have never noticed it before because I never go around to the passenger side rear door, but I actually used the door today and noticed a 'Smartshield' sticker - but I have an AU series 1, with the 'old style' remotes. Whats the go? I'm assuming there is an overlap where maybe they were using the new stickers even though the old smartlock system was fitted.

I guess that its not possible that I have smartshield but somehow the previous owner ended up with an old style remote (if they work on the new system).....

.....can anyone shed any light?

Maybe the previous owner replaced the windows with SH ones with smartshield stickers.

Does your key have a transponder in it? If it does you have smartshield.

If your key looks like this you have Smartlock. If the keyhead is squarer and deeper you have a Smartshield key. The bigger head houses the transponder.

Thanks mate.

Yes, I have the larger key.

So why do I have the old style remote???

Is there any advantage to getting and programming a new style remote?

Maybe they lost the remote and found that the cheaper smartlock remote will program to the car. I don't know. As the remote is only for the doors, boot, etc and has no affect on the actual Smartlock/Smartshield operation it may be possible to use the wrong one, never tried!
Can anyone lend you a AUII remote to try on your car first? See if it programs.
