Hi Guys,
Ive bought another ef and this one seems to run really hot. When warmed up the needle sits at the top of the n in normal My old ef never used to go past the L in normal. I dont think this is good what can i do to make the car run cooler? Coolant flush ? thermostat? |

check radiator fins/fans/water in it?
mine split two hoses when it hit the top of the "o" in normal (two different occasions) since fixing the radiator (flat fins) is sits at "a">"l" |

1. check the fans are running
2 check the thermostat, some people take them out thinking that it will help cool it better but it makes it overheat does it have lpg?? if so replace the thermostat with one from an XG-H ute 4.0 they are single stage not duel like the EF-L

check between the radiator and the air conditioning condensor, as lots of rubbish and road matter can get stuck between the two...
ask any EA>ED owner with those nice big aeroplane props helping the situation...

Check the thermo stat, you can get ones that run hotter/cooler try putting a stock rated one in there, that will probably fix your problem, if not it could also be the radiator being blocked, just pull it out and hold it towards the sun and if you can't see through it, you know it's blocked.

When you start up (cold) CAREFULLY put your hand on the metal bypass pipe from the thermostat housing to inlet manifold and check that it gradually heats up. It shouldn't be long before it is too hot to touch.
As this is going on occasionally put hand on top of thermostat housing and you should be able to tell when the thermostat opens, it will get bloody hot. When this happens there should also be a temp rise at radiator inlet. when dash temp gauge on high reading then try to touch radiator outlet pipe Carefully! If rad outlet not too hot to touch then suspect temp sender/gauge or someone could have put in a thermostat that doesn't seal bypass. If you have access to a cooking thermometer then open coolant surge tank BEFORE starting cold engine and put thermometer into tank. These thermostats are only fully open above 100 degrees so if coolant tank temp around or under 100 and dash indicates close to max then check temp sender. Hope this is of some help.

yeah, if its done country miles chances are there is a bucket load of grass seed and s**t between the rad and ac. only way to get to it too is to take the rad out through the engine bay
