Howdy people. The clutch on the telstar (89 2.2ltr model) has finalyy s**t itself, so i shall be in need to be fixing it very shortly. But i have never looked into, pulled apart, or installed a clutch before.
So what i want to know is what is involved in replaceing one, is it a huge task? What actual parts will need replacing? what sort of prices should i be looking at? Pretty much stuff from the start, as i have never dealt with them before cheers BEN

Its a fair size job, CV shafts will have to come out, so you will need to fill up the box again.
Have you got a workshop manual?????? Your gunna need it if you haven't done one before. There not that cheap, I think. Maybe around $200-$300 for a kit, then there's machining the flywheel. Good luck with it.

ive never worked on that car before but im assuming its similar to other front wheel drives,
drain the gearbox/diff, remove the front wheels, brake assembly remove the cv shafts remove the started motor, disconnect the gear linkages undo all the gearbox bolts and whatever else is holding the box in, remove gbox. take the pressure plate off the clutch, and remove the flywheel. the flywheel will probably need machining so get it done and reassembly is the same as dissasembly. make sure you align the clutch tho, make life much easier... as cjh said a workshop manual would be benificial, but if you use your head and keep everything organised you shouldnt have much trouble.. -mitch

If you do not machine the flywheel, the warranty on the clutch kit will be null & void. It is worth doing.

you'll also need to support the engine as the gearbox is part of the engine mount.
Usually you'll have a steel brace from both strut towers and a chain/rod setup.

Must be a telstar week just did the box in my sons 2.2 telstar. Unless your clutch was doing weird things like pulsing or grabbing machining the fly wheel is not an issue. The removal is a right pain in the rear just watch out for the removal of the cv axles as they where hard to remove ( got some sort of circlip thing going on) and the guys are right about supporting the engine aswell. Its not a fun job to do>good luck
