My EB2 just died while normal drivin tonight...($120 tow home!) and she has spark but backfired when i put reved so i'm thinking it will be another (3rd!) Module.....Does anyone know of any aftermarket modules that 'don't' blow cos i can't even stand getting the dizzy cap off on the 4.0 let alone change modules every now and then!!!

Yes i did.....but this is the third one....though it may be the pick up inside the dizzy to which i have done before also.....Is hard to tell without a diagnostic tool....might put a whole new dizzy in as there cheaper than replacing the bits!

BPT do one that is intended to provide more spark, doubt it's more resistant to heat. (http://www.norcom.net.au/~bpt/Ford%20Ignition%20Components.htm)
If you are killing that many TFI's, theres obviously a problem, whether you aren't putting enough thermal paste on, or whether there is something wrong in your ignition system.

Problem Solved! It was the TFI Module....I have a few old for spare.
Also instead of using the standard s**t Phillips head screws i just happened to have some liitle 4mm Allen heads about 8mm long! That allowed me to get them nice and tight.... The bottom screw is the Neg for the module so it needs to be 'tight'...I would suggest this as a 'must do' modification axly! Have run it up to 1/2 temp and restarted a few times and I reckon it's even runnin better!!! |

After replacing this 'blown' Module i'm now wanting some info on checking/testing the unit itself with a multimeter....Anyone got any Factory/Trade info on this stuff?.I'm just curious to see what is actually 'blown' init!!!

Remove ur plugs and find Top Dead Centre on No 1 cyl (Compression stroke) and match Harmonic balancer marks at front cover ....Then put ur dizzy in so when rotor button is located it will be on the No 1 contact that is marked on top of dizzy cap....Nip up the dizzy lock bolt....Then fit ur leads (and plugs) following the firing order...153624.... Then set the timing proper (marked IGN) with a timing light and make sure you bridge (i use an aligator clip) the 1st left top and lower terminals in the diagnostic plug under the fuse panel (EB/D) after starting....timing must be set within 2 minutes or else retsart and re bridge....Lock up dizzy and recheck timing!
