Ok just got me new el fairmont on the weekend and theirs a problem with the smartlock sometimes..
sometimes when i press the button to open the dooors they open then lock then open then lock like over n over again:S bit annoying and awkwad in the car park.. 
the guy i bought it from said sumthen about the sensor in the passanger door?? watta i gotta do to fix it? cheers

Check the central locking motors as one could be faulty and not lock the car properly.
The faulty central locking motor needs to be replaced. Make sure all your doors are closed properly too.

Even though these are the most common problems, in my case it ended up being the door lock rod (the one that the locking snip that pokes out of the door trim is connected to) was actually snapped, and was sometimes getting jammed! The old owner had had the door trim off just before I bought the car, and obviously did it then! |

 ok it is one of your buttons on the doors it dose this cause it will not seat down in the trim so will go up and back down maybe 4 to 8 times
so to fix this just unlock the can and pull the door lock button(s) off then lock the car and just push them back on when the doors a locked

I got the same problem and am told it's the actuator on one of the doors.
seems to be a pain to find which one but here is what I was told to do. Take off all the door trims/cards. disconnect each lock/motor and then eliminate which one does the up and down thing. Very time consuming but it works. Replace stuffed actuator and hey presto it;s fixed. oh yeah replace trims/cards when finished |

ok this sound a bit weird but back in 1996 when my dad was driving the ef gli he unloked it after going to the bank and it locked itself again, so get ready on the door handle to open it then unlok it and when the lock comes up open the door b4 it can lock itself again, his kept going up and down so lean over to the passengers side and bash the lock with ur fist until it stops, lol hope that helps
