Just wondering if the ECU controls the dwell or the coils/built in ignitors control it on the xr6t. Cheers |

my thoughts are that the ECU will do the dwell control... most COP type coils need external dwell control. id say around 2.5ms

i had a look at ba coils today, they have only two wires, which leads me to beleive the ecu has built in ignitor and does dwell control

Forgive my stupidity, but what's dwell control and what does it do?

dwell is the time that the primary coil windings are earthed to charge the coil, when the primary coil earth is disconnected the magnetic field collapses and forms a high voltage buildup in the secondary windings...

thanks ebs_4l, simon from nizpro replied on the nizpro forums and confirmed it aswell
now i dont need to buy the autronic CDI and can just run the sm4 |

i dont beleive they do, i tink the ford ecu has the ignitors... otherwise they would be 3 wire coils. I could be wrong though

that sounds right.. since you will not have a direct connection to the coil primary circuit from the coil pins. you will see about 1.2k ohms and the other reading will be anything above this, i think the ones on the honda outbaord engine i was playing with the other day were 1.2k and 5k
with no ignitor you will see primary coil resistance of just a few ohms, .5-3ohms also, most built in ignitor coils will have 3 wires, - + and trigger, whereas no ingitor will just have + and switching ground pulse
