Has anyone had this performed on there Falcon? Did if help with idling issues?
After exhausting all the normal channels (injectors, ignition, sensors, vacuum leaks etc) I am thinking of giving it a try to cure my "slight" idle roughness. J |

Hi there, I had the car in at Ford (city ford) on Friday to no avail (they didnt charge which was good). They claim the next step is to pull off the head and clean the carbon out! Not really a feasible step for an EL anymore. They also said they think it idles pretty well for a car of its age, but I think it is pretty bad.. Let me know if you find anything not sure what to do now as I still dont like the idle at all. cheers, Jeremy |

You first say you have a slight idle roughness, but then say you think its pretty bad.
Considering the way these engines work their idle, via the MAP sensor and TPS, as the engine ages, the idle will technically be worse, and there is no real way around it unless you put a reco engine in. But have you also given a thought to the engine mounts not holding the engine down properly - or they may have collapsed giving the feeling of a rough idle? |

is this the decarbonisation that they put a mechine on your fuel line and pump in fuel with "decarbonising fluid" in?
if so its a pile of crap. best way to rid of carbon is to use water. |

Yeah water injection works wonders but dont use too big a jet

a proper injector clean. I had my head cracks repaired along with gasket and injector clean. Idle was then super smooth for a while. As I run gas 95% of the time the injectors clog up and now after 15,000klm it's rough again.

The back yard way to clean out the carbon from off the pistons, etc is to get the engine hot, then with some one keeping a fast idle (2-3000rpm) pull the PCV valve and either suck up some ATF or some water s-l-o-w-l-y. The ATF will make HUGE clouds of white smoke but I reckon it does a better job. I would probably use maybe 1/4 cup of ATF or 1 cup of water.
cheers Scott
