hey all

looking to cover some MDF which i've got my amps mounted to, and redoing my roof lining in black - would somewhere like spotlight etc sell the stuff i need? is there a special glue i need to get a hold of, that won't show through on the material when applied?

dumb questions, but nothing i've ever had to deal with before!

What material are you using? If its reasonably thick stuff (not like nylon or anything) make sure you use spray on glue in a can. Its not "normal" glue and comes out evenly in a spray can and doesnt show through the material. its about $6-$8 bucks a can. the usual places have it like spotlight and lincraft

I used black suede from spotlight, its thin but its good for my rooflining, and I used a bostik spray on glue from bunnings, used 3 big cans for the whole roof lining, $70 all up

Just remember if you use spray glue be really careful not to breathe the s**t in, that stuff will clog your lungs quicker than smoking a pack a day for 50 years.

Make sure you grab a couple of disposable masks.

As for the material, spotlight and lindcraft have tonnes of materials, you can also try clark rubber if you're looking for vinals.

Sometimes depending on the material you choose you only need to glue the edges, as long as you pull everything nice and tight, use a staple gun on the back side to hold it all in place until the glue sets, then just leave the staples in. Obviously don't use staples in any surface that will be visible, and I wouldn't recommend stapling the roof lining either.

I used contact adhesive last time I did a roof liner. It was sprayed on from the tins, but it lets go quickly.

so I went and got contact adhesive in a tin, that worked well I brushed it onto the roof liner after I got all the foam backing from the liner itself GOD WHAT A MESS LOL.

Then I glued the felt onto the liner by putting the glue on the liner first by brush.. then applied the felt by hand at the lower parts first.

once all the lower bits are flattened out (you can use an old credit card or something like that) and get all the bubbles out get the felt to mould into the liner into where the sun visors go, and into any other crevices are.

then you can get a box cutter *hehe good pun hey^ and cut your light recess, sun visor, jesus handles and other stuff that I forgot.
cut a X into where they go too and tuck the excess up into the liner.

Put all of your bits and pieces back in and voila we got the new liner in...

pulling the liner plastics out as in the side ones is a pain in the bum, and someone else can explain that HEHE
