ok got the axle out but the bearing cup is still stuck in the housing, how do i get it out?
theres no point in only changing the bearing on the axle and leaving the old other half still in the housing..... this sounds retarded but im trying to word it in a way that most people will understand..

slide hammer is the norm here,,or bend the end of a srew driver and lever it out carefully.

Mine just pulled out with my hands, took a little bit of force but it should come out, like the other said, you could try to lever it out with a bent screw driver, or a slide hammer.
Another thing you could try is, get a small punch and gently hit it all the way around the bearing cup in order to break it's seal, then try to remove it by hand. And you should definitely remove it as the cup should be a matched half to the bearing. Cheers, Jason |

I've had them that tight, that I've had to use a welder on them to shrink the outer of the bearing.

To weld them, make sure the earth is on the bearing cup if possible to stop it arcing, then run a weld around the cup. As the weld shrinks, it shrinks the cup too, and itll drop out. or at least pull out with a slide hammer :p

is an old arc welder ok? what about heating it with the oxy?

heating the housing may work, but it will heat the bearing with it which most likely wont. An arc welder should be fine providing you know how to weld/ Just dont weld the bearing to the housing or you will be kicking yourself big time. Id try a slide hammer first. it shouldnt be that hard to get out

is an old arc welder ok? what about heating it with the oxy? Yes, arc welder is fine, just have a rag up in the axle tube to stop spatter going in there. After welding it, it will have shrunk enough to drag it out with your fingers, when its cold. Do not heat it with an oxy, it takes the temper out of the axle tube/ending. Same goes for getting the bearing off, do NOT cut it off with an oxy. The can be gotten off with a hammer and a cold chiesel with no damage done.
