And, ever since I did my oil, 5.5L, oil filter and fuel filter, plugs and leads 3 weeks ago. I often now get high oil pressure readings.
Is that a concern, it coinsides with a slightly high volt reading on the battery guage too, so it could be the cluster. Can I safely re-use the rocker cover gasket if I take the cover off? Thanks. |

make sure there is an extra earth lead from abbtery to the block

How high? LIke in the red high?
Personally I wouldn't be stingy, get a new gasket, as it's a pain in the a*** if yours doesn't seal again and you have to remove and replace it later. Do you maybe have too much oil in it? How highs the voltmeter reading? |

yeah you could reuse the gasket but the cheapness far outweighs the risk of it leaking again

Rocker cover gaskets are soft rubber and can be reused without any problems as long as they dont have any kinks in them

yup you can reuse the gasket a number of times before it gets wonky and starts to leak.
example, when i was changing the timing on my cam every day, it lasted around 15 times before its was stuffed. if you went with the "never reuse" theory, cam timing changes would be VERY costly |

yep, i reused my 10 year old one
the new one leaked, set engine on fire. pulled old one out of bin and whacked that on. no probs

Thanks for those replies.
The issue still continues. I did a bit of city driving on Thursday, and after an hour of stop start driving with air-con on, the battery volt gauge started to drop a bit, just below half way. Which affected the oil guage and the oil needle went into the low orange sending off the low oil pressure warning chime. Somethings not quite right with the cluster like that. High battery reading sends the oil pressure gauge a bit high. Low battery, low oil pressure reading. Why is the oil guage affected by the volt gauge in that way? |

is the alt working right not over or under charging or the battery is stuffed . check them and check the wire from the alt to the battery the get corroded and break sometimes.

Check to make sure your PCV (positive crankcase ventilation) valve isn't blocked. It's the "thing" that goes into top of the rocker cover next to the filler cap.
It's designed to allow gas one way but not the other. ie gas from rocker cover to intake or intake manifold, depending on the car. eEasy way to check is to rattle it. if it makes no noise, it's blocked, clean it out with carbi cleaner or brake cleaner. If it's blocked you will always have leaking oil problems. On cars like xf falcons and cars with similar engines, you will notice if it's leaking oil, it wont run properly. ie pull the dipstick on a properly running engine whilst the car is running and the car will stumble real bad.
