G'day all: 1992 EB, the TFI went to lunch and didn't come back, so I replaced it with another. It is a generic brand.
The car is now running rough. During the replacement , I moved the distributor so I could get to the screws on the TFI unit. My guess is that I now need to re-time the thing. It also smells as though it is running really rich. I re-positioned the dizzy as close as possible to the original setting, but maybe it is not good enough. I didn't take the dizzy out. I haven't got a manual for it, so, what I need to know is the timing proceedure. I figure I need to bridge the A and B teminals on the socket, but after that????? I also see there are two timing mark indicators on the block, what is the difference? Any other ideas would also be appreciated. |

To adjust timing:
Get car to operating temp. Switch engine off. Connect timing light to no. 1 lead. Ensure ign. off. Connect a jumper lead between terminal A (white/red wire) and terminal B (black/white wire) on the diagnosis connector. Start engine. Engine should idle between 1300 and 1600 rpm initally. This indicates that the ecu is in diagnosis mode. Using timing light. check groove in crankshaft pulley aligned with ign mark (10 degrees bdtc) on the timing cover whilst idling. Turn the dizzy if you need to adjust timing. You need to check the timing within 2 minutes of in the system being in diagnostic mode. If your not quick enough turn engine off, wait 15 secs and repeat procedure. remove jumper lead and check timing marks are NOT aligned indicating ecu is controlling ign timing. You need to connect the jumper lead to the top left slot (terminal A) to the bottom left slot (terminal B) on the diagnosis connector under the fuses under the steering column. Hope this helps.

Thanks lee lee le bonk, it sounds like it's like the EL system, and I can handle that.
What is with the two timing mark indicators on the timing cover though?? |
