Guys I have an xg ute with Hydratrak diff which seems to be binding When I reverse or when I take a corner sharply. It's like the diff is locking. Could this be just an oil problem or is something majorly wrong.

have you checked the oil level in the diff for starters?

Are you sure it has a Hydratrack diff???
The Hydra diff's have a "cassette" centre in them which has silicone oil in them and vanes & stuff. If they stuff up, that needs to be replaced. A way to tell if it is a hydra diff is one is the axles have an extra, smaller set of splines on them. Those smaller spline set go into the cassette. The Commo's that were the GTS's with the 6sp box have those diff centre's too.

They are total s**t, I have removed the one from the GT due to inconsistant hook up, and the hotter you get them, the worse they are.

again heard similar things like the old Quaife diffs in 911's the hotter they get the more they fail.
Great idea just not suited to large vehicles. they are required to load us too much.

A boss I worked for years ago had a Quaife in a Mk 1 Golf, the box was a Sirroco(spelling) 5sp from the states, rear disc brakes, full Italian sports exhaust, Magnaflow intake with twin Delorto 40mm DHLA's, 1700 & something cc's stroker crank. That thing would keep up with a VN SS Commo with a couple of mods to it till about 140 then the Commo would pull away, slowly. That Commo was new at the time, so its been a while.

They were used in XH Outback utes, EL GT's, and Commo's GTS's. The diff has a special centre inside the hemisphere, that has vanes & silicone oil inside it, and the axles have 2 sets of splines on them, the inner smaller ones go into that "cassette" centre. Suppose to be smoother lock up, but they seem not to last long.
