goog is your friend:
"Discharging the Capacitor: If you plan to remove your capacitor for any reason, you may want to completely discharge the capacitor to avoid a potential hazard. To discharge the capacitor (only after it's disconnected from the system, of course), will need to enable the current to flow from one terminal to the other. You can use either a test light or resistor for this purpose. Some large capacitors tend to develop a charge similar to a battery and will produce a small voltage across its terminals. Since, in a large capacitor (over .5 farad), even a small voltage could be dangerous. After it is discharged, you may want to connect the terminals together with a piece of wire or resistor. Even if the capacitor design doesn't permit it to develop adverse voltages when unused, leave the terminals connected as a visual confirmation of the unit's safety. No, the potential difference is between the - and + on the cap. You need to discharge from one side to the other through a load, like a 12v light bulb or resistor (but be careful with a resistor as it'll get really hot.

get hold of a 100 ohm resistor and connect it permanently across the terminals until you reinstall it.
An interior light globe will also be fine, you need to solder wires to each end though. |

its called Bleeding a Capacitor, as said above, Easiest way is to hook a load to the two Terminals, like a 12v torch

^^^^^ possibility it could f**k the Capacitor, and a decent Car audio Capacitor isnt something you want to be Blowing up

A good way is to connect a wire to each terminal, best bare copper wire, and wind either one around each side of the toilet seat, approximateley where a butt cheek would sit.
Next time the wife goes for a crap, she makes the circuit, and the rest is priceless.... |

To discharge a cap its as easy as using either a normal 12 volt globe (5 to 20watt) or for a faster discharge use a halogen headlight globe. If using a resistor use the wire wound type as they wont explode as they are a higher wattage . Use a 1k or higher wire wound resistor (rectangular white ceramic type)
