i recently bought a motor out of an ED fairmont.
Its a 4Lt multi-point.
I heard the motor running before i bought it and it started easily and sounded sweet.. the head was recently done with a full reco head.
But, i got the motor home, and when it was on the stand i opened the throttle body, and to my horror about 1/4Lt of oil ran out..

What i'm assuming happened (with out looking) at the moment, is that when the reco head was put on, the bottom end has s**t its self when it copped a bit of compression..

My question is:
Assuming the bores arent badly lipped, or out of round, will these motors accept a hone and a new set of rings?? i've heard the older 250s and xflows didnt like to be re-ringed, but the few people ive asked havent been able to answer if the 4lts are able to be re-ringed and not consume oil like ive been told the xflows did.

it is possable that the oil got there when it was transported..if it was layed on its side it could have seaped past the rings...

fair call, i guess i didn't think of that...
i think i'd like to fit new rings and bearings anyway, im just not sure if you can hone and ring them, or if i have to have it machined and fit oversize pistons...

a few years back i rebuilt my EA 3.9 it had a small lip i just honed it and fitted std rings the pistons were ok so ididnt bother changing them.. i still have the car and i've done about 80,000k's since the rebuild and hasn't missed a beat..
