Not too sure where they start cracking anyway!!! If not from the bottom ?? I'v seen a few with cracks on valley. So it's the whole webbing from top to bottom.. The Ford six's from A.U and latter have super strong mains support... Though this was done to help NVH [Noise vibration harshness] as the previous engines where heaps strong !!!

Well to my understanding the girdle was put in to minimise bearing cap wander/movement. This makes sence because the windsor is a very thin casting and doesn't have a DEEP SKIRT block like the poxy gen 3, which makes the stroker a bit of a grenade in my eyes

I'm in the process of building a 347 stroker and if I knew what a headfk it was gunna be to install a main girdle I wouldn't have bothered. The original sump is too small to fit over the girdle, the new canton 9 qt sump is needing to be modified A; to fit over the girdle B; to fit in K frame. With all of the extra cost and headache' not to mention time, it would've been cheaper to buy another rotating assembly if this one is gunna get munched.

Mate, somethings wrong there, T3 Falcons had one in the factory sump.

And the topic is BLOCK girdles, not main girdles here guys, main girdles fit on the main caps, block girdles fit in the valley, and get bolted in under the inlet manifold.

ok im a bit confused here..arnt block gerdles there to help the block from splitting ,and dont blocks split because of shift in the main caps exerting huge stress on the block.. so wouldnt it be better to use a mains girdle than a block girdle..????? if you stop the caps from shifting this should stop the block from splitting... is this correct what are your thoughts guys...

my 393 clevo is stronge enough not to have a gerdle although i have one on my top end to lock all my rollers into place so i dont have to keep adjusting them , money well spent if you ask me now i only have to check them every 2-3thousand k's

I know what they are for, but how do they reduce adjusting rockers, are the studs stretching without it?
