95 5lt Fairmont.
I ran out of fuel today.Put some fuel in it but won't start. Sometimes it wants to but then it just kicks over. Have I killed the pump and how do I know? eddy |

if the fuel pump has run dry, chances are it could be buggered. Check the filter first as stated, next step would be tee in a fuel pressure gauge.

I've actually had my son turn the key while I was under the tank and can't hear anything. Is it hard to replace by a mechanicly minded person or do I need a mechanic and how much are they?

Fuel pump is around 120ish for a genuine VDO pump.
The screw on ring that holds the sender and pump assembly in the tank is a bugger to get off, you can make a tool to do it if you have access to a welder, else you need to use a hammer and screwdriver and try not to split the ring in half doing it. Once that ring is off, the rest is easy. |

it is a simple task to replace the fuel pump...though it is tedious and annoying if you don't have the tool that 66 coupe mentioned. If not a hammer and a blunt screw driver can always do the trick to undo the plastic screw on ring thingy.
if you have a gregory's manual there, it will show you how to make that tool. phong =P~

before you remove the pump, it might pay to stick a multimeter probe into the fuel pump wire, in the boot, just to make sure its not the fuel pump relay etc causing no / low voltage to the pump
|

Rang Peter Warren today and was quoted 270 for pump plus 170 in labour.
Rang Lubemobile and was quoted 295 fitted! |
