Hi
I just bought a 98 'Lane. I cant get the drivers seat low enough. I am over 6' 3" tall and have to have the back of the seat leaned a fair way back to fit in comfortably. But i am not leaning all the way 'into' the seat. I have used the two knobs on the lower side of the seat to lower the front and the back of the base. Just wondering if anyone could offer some mods or tips on how to get the seat a little lower. Sliding further back might even help a little.

Jebus man...
I'm 6'2" and I never used to hit the roof on my previous car. Had a couple of inches to spare, and that was with the base raised up a bit to where I liked it. And that was an EL Ghia... Fairlaines have a higher roofline again. I hit the roof now as the new EL s**t has a sunroof. One question though, is your drivers seat base electric rather than manual adjustments. I guess so, as I know electric bases were standard from late 97 onwards. If thats the case, the electric bases do not go back as far nor go as low as the manual bases. You simply may need to find a manual base seat and swap the cushions over. |

Nah its a manual base not electric.
Once i get those lumbar knobs , i might be able to adjust that which will allow me to sink into the seat properly. At the moment, i am leaning on the lumber , my upper back hardly touches the rest of the back. Although I also notice my knee when driving , (right knee) is kinda lodged between the wheel and the door handle ... So a little more slide back would be real nice.

EF seats are even higher - I'm not tall and find it annoying.
Modifing the seat/runners/floor pan is a no-no, so you may just have to put up with it.

Why is it a no-no?
Safety issues - ADRs are pretty tight in regards to seating mods. Of course this shouldn't be a problem if approriate factory parts are used or the mods are passed by an engineer. Totally differant set of rules for old/imported cars - would probably be nowhere near as strict, eg: car was sold from new without seatbelts - don't have to have 'em.

LOL righto mate.
You going to tell me I can't jigsaw a couple of nice 6" X 9" holes in the rear parcel shelf and remove the centre seatbelt too? . Anyway I managed to get the seat adjusted a little better. I raised the back section up a little which allowed me to straighten my legs a bit more, In turn i was able to bring the reclined back section up a fair bit more.. I am sitting in the car more comfortably now. Perhaps a common mistake for tall people to drop the back and the front?

Adrian, I own a 1998 Fairlane and my driver's seat is manual, not electric.
I thought you knew that
