Just wondering if anyone else on here has tackled the roof lining in a car with a sunroof fitted?

I had to take mine out as the sunroof motor decided to drop out (just one of many problems due to dodgy work I've found since buying the car). I noticed that the hard backing piece only runs out from the rear screen to above the backseat, from there forward the lining was glued to the metal work of the sunroof frame and the roof itself.
Seemed a bit dodgy to me, so I've dropped the hard backing out my EA and plan to fit it this w/e. Does anybody know if this will sag in the guts after cutting out the hole for the sunroof?
Interior light looks as though it would support the lining but I'm planning on getting rid of it and installing an "LED Nightsky".
