weneva my car goes in2 4th 4 example wen driving at 80 it kicks in2 fourth with a big jolt, it does it even if i drive like a grandma and its reali anoying. any ideas? afta a while of driving, wen changing in2 2nd is does the same thing also.

sounds like one of the solenoids in the trans is stuffed.. i've heard about this problem but cant remember what solenoid it is.... an auto trans specilast should be able to tell you

Firstly when was the trans last serviced (fluid and filter change)? If you dont know do that first. After that make sure to perform a throttle calibration to ensure gears change smoothly and when they are meant to (do a search on here to find out the procedure). If after all that it is still changing hard its normally the Damper soleniod (S5) which is a very expensive part, anywhere between $170 (reconditioned) and $460 (new from Ford) Thats the part only.

Is it taking a while to change into gear? As sexyr6 said it sounds like a solenoid. Mums Subaru Liberty is having the same trouble. Its really annoying to drive like this..
