It changed through the models and roller cams etc. Have a real good look in all the nook and crannies and you will usually find it cast into the inlet manifold somewhere. they were still doing that in the EF's so It should be on the EB

Try these out for size, yours is more than likely going to be same as HO order - 1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8
Windsor (289, 302, 5.0, 5.0HO, 351) Firing Orders Have you ever needed to know what the cylinder firing order on your windsor motor is? Fear not, as we have the cylinder numberings for pretty much all windsor combinations out there! 289 1-5-4-2-6-3-7-8 302 (Pre-82) 1-5-4-2-6-3-7-8 5.0 1-5-4-2-6-3-7-8 5.0 HO 1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8 5.0 Truck 1-5-4-2-6-3-7-8 351 1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8 Cylinder numbering The table below covers the positions and numbering for all cylinders on a windsor motor. Generally, it can be summarised as follows: When looking into the engine bay the number one cylinder should be on your left hand side (left bank) at the front of the engine. The number eight cylinder is on the rear right (right bank) up against the firewall. Firewall 4 8 3 7 2 6 1 5 Front bumper |

firng order is: 13726548, rotor button spins anti-clockwise, number 1 is usually just left of 12 o'clock on the dizzy if your looking at the front of the car hope this helps.

There is normally a tiny mark on the edge of the dizzy when you take the cap off but if not no worries. Turn the motor over until the timing mark is top dead centre (TDC) (0 deg) and look at which lead the rotor button is pointing to and start from there. You should have noted the direction of ratation of the rotor button as you did this as some cars run in different directions and I can never remember which cars go which way.
If it backfires and carries on and wont start then it is 180degrees out, in other words when you had TDC it was at the exhaust stroke so start from the one directly opposite as number one and go from there. Piece of cake. |
