Gday, i went to autobahn today and i was looking in the air filter section and a sales person came up to me an asked what i want. I wanted to get a price on a air intake for my EL falcon 6, they quoted me $330 for an SS Induction Big Mouth pipe to the airbox and i just laughed at them.

I was checking the snorkle out and it dosn't even look any bigger then the XR6T snorkle i have atm and they claim that it gives "an increase of up to 7Kw at rear wheels, smoother performance, improved throttle response and a substantial fuel saving". I sure havn't felt a 7kw gain from my snorkle which would be about 10kw at the engine. Are these SS induction kits a load of s**t or do they actualy do somthing?.

it most definately is bigger.
it's got a larger opening, but the main difference is the actual pipe between the mouth and going into the air box is signifcantly bigger - requires you to cut/hack your air box up in order to accomodate it.
generally the product quality on the aftermarket snorkels isn't as good build as the factory ones - which is a shame considering the extremely high price of them.
as for the price, it's about right for aftermarket snorkels.

There seems to be an indent in the tubing just before it enters the air box.

If it is an indent then it looks as if it cuts 2/3(?) of the volume at that point.

Can't make it out properly as dog obviously has eye problems and has taken my glasses under the house!

They mention fuel econ improvement which always makes me sceptical.

LOL $330.

That's rediculous really, But my mate has one on his car :/

Probably makes a difference.

Rediculous pricing, you can do so many other things with the same effect for like $50.

I paid umpteen dollars for one of those things, and it made not one scrap of difference. The main reason being, I have since found out, that there is low pressure point where the intake is. Don't waste you money.

I have since bought a (suposed) Tickford intake which is a little bigger, for a fraction of the cost of a SSS unit, but it hasn't done much yet either :(

If your half handy with the tools you could build a sheet metal airbox and intake piping for less than 330 bucks. You could also take the time to fit the opening in a high pressure region and make it actually do something worthwhile instead of sitting there looking all pretty in the engine bay.

Dont waste your money on it dude, keep the snorkle you have now and save another couple hundred and get a cam or a chip, a mod that actually will make a difference

SS Inductions is a ripoff. Just go a Tickford snorkel or if you really want more make your own secondary intake. It's only plastic after all.

the aunger ones that repco sell are bigger again than the sss inductions ones....and they are cheaper too....and like creeture3 said its a low pressure point where they are placed so u need to first feed more air to that spot first....i spent $8.50 at bunnings on a pvc pipe and a hour or so of a bit of cuttin and heat bending and painting and i did this (saw it on autospeed).....it brings up the cold air from the high pressure spot in the opening of the bumper....

I've got the SS induction on my BA XR, u can check out some pics on my myspace http://www.myspace.com/xr6jason if u want
I'd have to say that when i put it in, i noticed a difference, more responsive, fuel economy SLIGHTLY improved from 13.9 ltrs per 100km to 13.5 ltrs. I didnt pay for it tho, it was a xmas present, originally i had it running with a K&N pod filter, but i had to take out the pod and put it with the stocky for the moment coz i simply stuffed the pod into the engine intake in the box and that sorta closed it off which caused idiling problems, so i'm ganna get a panel now. but i would have to say the SS makes a difference, just not worth the price :) simply because mouth is so big and this size is maintained all the way to the box, as mentioned earlier u need to hack the box. Oh and it makes a nice honing kinda sound when accelerating
