think of it this way. if stranded was better for high current and amperage applications, why dont they use stranded in the high voltage wiring on power poles and the like.

Because it's high voltage - low current. Car audio is low voltage - high current. The higher the current, the bigger the magnetic field and possibilty of losses. I forget how it relates to stranded vs solid core but i'm sure it was explained by a teacher years ago.

Point is... For the price (or ease in my case) thicker multistrand household wiring will do that same job as the prettier AWG Audio wiring. Sure there may be differences in the current and volatge drop with different stypes of wire. But when you are talking thick wire over relatively short distances, these aspects, if everything is wired properly, are almost negligable. So I'm just gonna run nice fat 12mm welding cable (rated at about 300ish Amps or 3500watts in 12V) to my boot... That'd be about the equivilent of 0g or 00g. I think that will solve my problems :D

For those who don't know, you would typically wire up a standard power point with about 6mm twin earth (the equvilent of 8g)

holey s**t! dought your old man would get much buisness running all his GPO's in 6mm!! LOL 2.5mm is used for 10amp twin and single powerpoints
