Actually if you want to take it one step further, (all things being equal). you can actually prove that if the temp increases about 30 degrees there is 10 percent less air going into the engine. pm me if you want equations That is basically the principal behind the cold air intake, however there are many more factors which ultimately dictate the resulting air flow. *But most of the time they forget to mention that. Its called psuedo science (I was never good at english though ). |

Yes, alumnium is bad because of heat. Aluminium conducts heat around 400x more than plastic, and around 13X more than stainless steel. The only commonly available metal that would be worse for a NA intake pipe is copper.
Not that it is going to make a massive difference, but it doesnt take much of a temperature increase to cost a few hp.

haha... trying to outdo me? lol I'm enjoying it so far... it's hard but I just look forward to the mega dollars I'll be making after Uni That keeps me going through the stressful times... My bro walked out of Uni and straight into a $100k/year mining engineering job He had a TER of 74.2 That's my plan...

Probably the worst... Not to mention the amount that it expands when heated... My dad, back in the day, once built an entire exhaust system out of copper, mufflers and all... Drove from Two Wells to Mallala for a race and arrived to find his exhaust dragging on the ground from it expanding so much lol... Back then they didn't teach simple metal expansion crap in school so he didn't know any wiser

If your worried about heat soak on metal induction, just buy some heat wrap... I put it on mine and it works a treat...

Yeh... The real true horsepower seekers with turbos wrap all their pipe work in heat wrap to help prevent heat absorption. Doesn't look very pretty but it works extremely well.

OK you need two 180* mandrell bends and two 300mm straight sections I got mine from Super Cheap as intercooler pipe. Section A is one full 180* piece, sections D,F and the one I missed out the 22.5* all get cut out of the second 180* piece. Section E,B and C are out of the 300mm straight sections. Im sure you could buy these pipes in mild steel and stainless if you are concerned about the heat transfer issue. You will need to get the ends, F and the 22.5* pieces flanged to 78/80mm any exhaust shop can do it.
The four pieces of pipe cost $120, Welding cost $40, clamps and joiner cost $19.

Hey stef, I did it over acouple of weeks a bit here and a bit there but I suppose in all four to five hours. Longest time was spent grinding back the weld's, sanding and polishing. Even though it looks good I'm seriously considering heat wraping it.
