to replace the sump gasket u need to support the engine with a engine brace, pull off the steering rack. all things attached the cross member then undo all the attaching bolts and lower it down. u need a hoist to do it as well and definantly not a job for the home hanyman. as for a tickford motor i would not waste your time cause then u have to pay to get it installed on top of purchase price. as for $950 tell him to get f&^$ed 4-5 hours labor is like aroud 500 + 100 for gasket is like $600 shop around and get it done right.

i had my sump gasket, timeing cover + gasket and new water pump done for $591.90...so $950 for just a sump gasket is a bit pricey

i have been reading up on this in some workshop manuals and according to them (yet to put it into practice) it say to unbolt the engine mounts from the chassis and raise and support engine, remove drain sump oil, remove sump and original gasket, clean, fit new gasket , refit sump, tension bolts , lower engine back down , bolt the engine mounts back up and refill with oil and preferbly new filter
and as i said the above info is only what the workshop manuals have said i will be attempting this in a few weeks so i will let u know i go

What sort of money should you pay for a motor? I read the $950 for a T-motor fitted. What about a 'normal' motor is there much difference in the EF and EL range. Oh and how old is too old?
Sorry for jumping in on someones elses thread. Cheers. |

As a matter of interest my EF was leaving saucer sized puddles every night on the ground. I was contemplating the hassles of replacing the gasket for a while, then when I cleaned under the car enough to crawl underneath with a little socket and some extensions I found every sump bolt took half a turn minimum and the ones around the rear of the engine 2 or three turns. No more mess!

the normal motor was worth $750 dunno what the k's are but itll b between 80k to 130k they dont wreck police or taxis as they told me they have to many problems with those motors and they only specify with fords from eb to current cars at parts plus in narellan
