G'day Everyone,
We are putting the final touches to the Track Car and we want to put in a battery kill switch that will also kill the engine, now this may sound easy, but we are having trouble getting it to work. What we have done so far is: 1. Isolated the battery using a Hella Battery Isolator (the engine keeps running if you turn this off only) 2. Put in a 12v relay to kill the connection between the distributor and the coil (power source for the realy comes from the isolated side of the isolator switch - so when isolator is ON, power goes to relay, connection between coil and distributor is complete, turn Isolator off, relay opens or puts a gap in the connection between the coil which should shut the engine down but it isn't). Any ideas greatly received - thanks

The problem is that the alternator is feeding the engine electrics. The easiest way to solve it is buy an isolator that has two smaller terminals that also break contact when the isolator is turned off, run the coil wire through those terminals and it will kill the spark and battery power at the same time.

I beleive we have resolved it by running the wire from the key to the coil through the relay instead of the wire between the coil and distributor, it seems to be working fine and doing all we want it to, however the current isolator is a bit dodgy so I will have to buy a better quality one.
