Does anyone have the wiring schematics for an EA Fairmont control box... the thing that sit adjacent to the stereo/hand brake and controls the intermittant wipers/rear demister/ignition light.
Mine smells like burning...

No it only has the wiring TO the box... not the schematics for inside the box itself.

I found one of the transitors is burnt out. I dont know what type of transistor to replace it with. It says its a SR52 PHO2 Emitter collecter base from the front.
What transistor could i replace this with thats available now????? Heres a pic... its transistor T8 which has burnt out... 4th from the end...

Yep take the board into d**k Smiths they should be able to identify the parts you require and supply them.

I've already been into d**k today, and I asked them what I would need and they couldn't find anything for me... I don't think he knew what he was talking about...
But if anyone here know electronics, its an NPN type transistor, would a generic PN100 type replace this????

I might be a bit late for this post but how did you determine if it was a NPN type?
Did you find some data or did some one tell you it was NPN which it may well be as this is probably the most common type used in circuits designed in the States. Or did you remove one of the "good" ones alongside it and check it over with a meter or a transistor tester? For the transistor to blow it must have been a bit overloaded and it may have possibly taken out some other components upstream or down. Replacing the transistor may not fix it. If it is an NPN then the PN100 would be a reasonable guess for a substitute but you will have to bend the leads around as the pin configuration is different.

I looked at some transistor data, trans with Emittor - Collector - Base in that order are generally NPN.... (P100 data sheet)
All the other trans are Collector - Base - Emittor and I have determined that it is a PNP. (as from looking at a P200 transistor data sheet) I think I overloaded the circuit, as it is the circuit which controls the Ignition light... I wired up all the internal courtesy lamps to it, Im assuming it couldn't take the load from an additional 5 lamps and blew. I'm now thinking maybe I should have used a relay instead... been driving around with it out for about 2 weeks now.

Hmm ... Yeah, should of used a relay, hehe, looking that those bem there is not much in them compared to the EB2 onwards ones .
been playing with lots of electrics in your car eh? lol .. |

Theres very little info on those boxes in the Genuine Workshop manual. They arent even referred to as a BEM, they call them a Relay Control Box.
Remember the 'BEMs' we know of, have all the smartlock gear integrated.. plus things like light fade delay.

The pin configuration is not much of a guide as to the polarity of the device as the PN100 is an NPN device and the PN200 is a PNP device yet the both share the same pin configuration (as do a lot of others)
The PN100/PN200 both use the TO92(72) which is EBC (looking at the flat side) Therfore you will need to bent the pins around to suit.

Actually for the same price you can get an Ellery's which sh*ts all over the Gregory's and Haynes. |
