Hey all,
I want to keep my standard AU3 Head deck (i get to keep steering wheel controls and anything else looks out of place IMO). I want to continue to run my 5x7" Eclipses off the standard head unit (it actually has sufficient power to go well), but I want a tad more bass. Does anyone have any recommendations for a set up for a sub with speaker level inputs? Any horror stories? Is it best to get a speaker -> line level converter first...or not really? Also, how do you eliminate the pop if you run the trigger wire off the accesories?

I'm using hi-low level converters for my system off the factory BA system and it works a treat.
I definately wouldn't say that you will notice a marked decrease in signal quality unless you are looking for competition sound! And, if you want to retain your factory head unit, I don't think you have too many options. It's either them, or a signal processor which is a fair cost!

Thanks philaddis
I figure as well, because I want to retain running the 5x7" off the head unit that i wont lose any quality as i am not introducing the hi-low level converters for those speakers. i figure how much quality is there to lose on sub sounds anyway? do you experience any noise coming through your sub (i am assuming you have 1 in your system???)

2 actually,.
There is some system noise, but that comes only through the Ipod Aux input (ford kit) and not the radio or the CD, so I am guessing that is related to the input. It was there before the system went in anyway, so def not the high-low level converters! There is no noticeable noise at all through the converters and the signal quality seems good. Alpine 4031's I think were the model number of the ones I used!

Ah ok so you used reasonable quality high -> line level converters, not the jatcay type?
Are you running a sub in your system?

Are you running a sub in your system? Yep and yep. Check out sig for equip....... The S type subs are essentailly the entry level Alpine and are over powered with the mono, but it allows for more powerful subs (type R's perhaps) in the futiure, and they sound good enough for the time being! As with anything for signal, RCA's, (read converters) etc, it pays to get as good as you can get. Can't expect a show winning chicken with a broken egg! (hows that for a bit of home spun philosophy?)
