afaik .the box will fit its the same as au bolt pattern..
the bottom 2 bolts on the bellhousing dont line up but it will still bolt up . |

You will need to hack the front crossmember and do something about bonnet clearance like JETXR. |

quite apart from the well documented engine management issues which this will represent.
You would be much better off going with an EL spec motor and blowing it or spending some money on it. Much better gain for a lot less heart ache and probably money in the long run!

My conversion and all the details are in my sig. Any throttle body from XE-AU will bolt up. The VCT doesnt need to be activated for the engine to run so it is like any other motor as far as ECU's go. Some crafty people like the dynowog have a cost effective solution to get the vct working without resorting to expensive ECU's as well. Other than that I dont think there is anything else he needs to know as it is a straightforward easy conversion. Engine mounts are the same from EA-BA. Ive got EA ones on my BA motor in my EA and they bolted straight up. As far an cost goes I think I will have spent less than $3k to get the NA engine up and running. |

Honest question then, if the VCT doesn't need to be operating for the engine to run (and I accept that as fact), how does it affect power and general operation with it not activated? It would have to hamper power, economy and driveability etc, to have it not hooked up, otherwise Ford wouldn't bother with the system in the first place! And seriously, 3k is half way to an installed Vortech SC kit for a lot more power and potential than an NA i6 BA motor. Or am I missing something?

Just that i can get a low k 182 kw (at the crank) BA for a grand. If it bolts up and i do most of the manual labour myself, couldn't see it running much over $2g all up. Then some forced induction down the track given the avaiability of bits for the BA range. Thanks for all the info. |

I will know about the cams in 2 weeks once the car is running. You can buy cam gears from atomic for $450 to set the cams in the a particular position to achieve similar peak power. You could also put them in place to give more low down power if that is what you wanted. The VCT allows for a wider spread of power. Dynowog has a better solution that pretty much makes the cam gears operate how they do in the BA's. This is what I am doing. If you have a BA go out and disconnect your cam position sensors and tell us how if feels. That will be how a conversion would operate with no VCT control. People have been fitting big cams and disconnecting VCT in jap cars for years so its not a huge issue. True those VCT systems aren't as variable as they are in the BA but it is the same principle. For the price of a supercharger kit you could fit a turbo motor in there and quite easily make over 300rwkw with minimal mods. Im going to rebuild my engine completely and put a GT51R with a snort manifold on it otherwise I would have bought a turbo motor. Pics are in my photobucket account. |
